When we travel, we are at our most free, mindful, and joyful. We become our travel alter egos, adapting to the sheer opportunity that a new destination can bring. It is as if we try to leave our emotional baggage at the check-in with our physical luggage. Allowing ourselves to try on another life, another way of being.
We make a certified attempt to pause our regular lives and reacquaint ourselves with who we think and know deep down that we were meant to be. Literally taking the journey to rediscover ourselves and what we truly want from this adventure called life.
Travel and vacation time offers us a space from the lives we have created. It makes us reflect on the goals we are trying desperately to reach or the success we are working so hard for. As we look out at the view and challenge ourselves outside of our comfort zone, it leads us to wonder if we are measuring the right thing.
We calculate our lives and worth on our achievements, not our contentment.
Travel offers us an opportunity to ask, “Is there another way?” Is there another possibility of what my life could look like or become?
The physical aspect of travelling, of moving and absorbing new places and cultures naturally leads us to a place of internal reflection. Gaining perspective from new activities and new opportunities to consider what a different path in your life could feel and be like.
We can feel like we have freed ourselves from our mental or physical blocks and excuses. We feel bold enough to challenge our conditioning and discover parts of our personalities and character that long to change the trajectory we have placed ourselves on. We come face to face with a realisation we can no longer ignore.
With miles between us and our perceived problems, we can begin to tune into that little voice that is often drowned out by the noise of our day, or our job, social media, family, and expectations. The voice that has been niggling and nagging in the background for your attention, waiting for you to ponder its message. Taking the journey and reassessing our dreams.
Asking ourselves – What are the possibilities of our life? Are we fulfilling our potential or cutting ourselves short and living in the fear of comfort? Are we accepting or are we creating our lives?
To travel can be defined as “going from one place to another – typically over a distance of some length.” I believe that distance can be measured in our personal journey of expectations and experiences.
An expedition based on our own personal life itinerary.
Our truest adventure is the pilgrimage back to trusting and knowing ourselves and what we long for in our lives. Our travels allow us the opportunity to level up, dream, realise and grasp our true nature and the true meaning of life. We have the capability and freedom to change the compass and direction of our journey. Travelling opens a portal for us to believe in possibility again.
Although we have our itinerary all planned out for our travels and our lives – sometimes the adventure lies in the opportunity and promise of that reflection and the ability to change course. Our best outcomes in life, lie in the possibility of change.
All the routes, avenues and detours we travel down connect us with ourselves. Our identity, longing, needs and wishes. It is the journey we create and call life.
Where will you let your itinerary take you?
